This page is considered an official policy on the Family Guy Wiki.
It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that everyone should follow.

Protection is the ability to limit who can edit a page. Administrators may protect pages to preserve the quality of the page and integrity of the wiki. A protected page can still be read.

Uses

The majority of content pages on Family Guy Wiki should remain unprotected to encourage all users in the community to edit. It is against Fandom's Terms of Use to permanently protect large numbers of content pages. Pages will not be protected without a valid cause that serves the betterment of the community.

When the need to restrict edit access does arise, the following is taken into account:

Acceptable reasons

  • Vandalism has persisted over a long period of time
  • Stopping an edit war
  • Protect the proper display of the wiki (i.e. wiki logo, frequently used templates, the main page, policy pages, etc.)

Levels of protection

When the need for protection arises, the administrators or content moderators will use their best judgment to find a balance between protecting the integrity of the wiki and allowing everyone to participate.

Fully protected

This is the highest level of protection and restricts editing to administrators and Content Moderators. If you do find a permanently protected content article, contact an administrator for review or use the talk page to discuss changes that wish to be made.

Request/Review protection

Some pages may be temporarily locked so that information may be reviewed. Under normal circumstances, this should not exceed 3 days maximum.

Protection in the case of a death

It is this wiki's practice to not discuss the cause of an actor's death unless it becomes extremely relevant to Family Guy. Furthermore, deaths often result in attempts to make an actor's page into a tribute to their life's work. The picture policy limits the number of images posted to a page for copyright reasons covered under Fair use. As such, it is common practice at this wiki to lock an actor's page for up to six months following their death.
