Helen Schlotz, nee Boardwart is Jess' mother in "Married...With Cancer" and in "Dead Dog Walking".
Brian meets Helen at his wedding to Jess when he marries her on the belief that Jess only has days to live and invites Helen to stay with them. However, after their vows are complete, Jess' doctor arrives with the news that Jess has made a full recovery. Stuck in the marriage, Helen arrives in their new apartment and demands that Brian discontinue the HBO because of her Christian beliefs and dictates that she will use the money instead for posters of fetuses to display outside of Panera Bread shops.
When Jess appears to have choked to death on nachos from Taco Zone, he finds out both of their maiden names. However, Jess makes a sudden recovery in the casket which Helen proclaims as a miracle.
In "Dead Dog Walking", Brian's self-destructive behavior causes Helen to nag Jess that he smells and complain about his drinking.
