"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" is a song written and performed by Scottish pop band The Proclaimers. It was released on their 1988 Sunshine on Leith album, and subsequently as a single. It has become one of their most popular songs, reaching No. 11 in the UK charts and No. 1 on the Australian ARIA Charts in 1989, plus, five years later, No. 3 in the US Billboard Hot 100. The song has become a live staple at their concerts.
Peter Griffin tried singing it with them once in the recording studio, but it didn't really work out, as seen in a cutaway in "You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Guy Who Receives".
Lyrics
Proclaimers: But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked 1,000 miles
And fall down at your door
Na, na, na, na
Peter: Da, da, da, da
Proclaimers: Na, na, na, na
Peter: Da, da, da, da
All: Na, na, na
[Peter starts slapping one of the singers' guitars, and then pushes him down]
Peter: Yeah. I'm singing, I'm singing!
