Plot:
After choking down his annual salad at The Drunken Clam, Peter cracks some jokes to his friends over text, only to notice that Joe isn't laughing. Upon noticing that he's never found him funny, Peter confronts him about it and strives to make him laugh by any means necessary. He ultimately decides to sneak into Joe's room while he's asleep and "Ha Ha" his text for him, but the excess cables get in his way and land him in hospice. Peter apologizes for overreacting, but sheds a tear of joy after Joe laughs at his description of the surgeries he's getting.
Meanwhile, after growing concerned about the lack of proper supervision on Chris and Meg's field trip to Washington D.C., Lois decides to tag along as a chaperone. After embarrassing her children and getting shunned by their classmates, Lois finds herself in a heart-to-heart with Principal Shepherd, who tells the story of his long lost love, Shellie Barnes, whom he met in 1993, but broke up with soon after. Feeling bad for him, Lois discovers Shellie's Facebook and reveals that she lives a mere thirty miles from the Area Hotel. Despite panicking at first, with some help from Lois, Shepherd musters the courage to talk to Shellie, only to discover that she has let herself go and her dream didn't pan out due to her drug addiction. Despite this, he takes pride in knowing that his life turned out superior.
