  • When Peter appears in the kitchen with a mustache, Brian observes that it's gay. Peter responds that it's not gay because, if it were, Freddie Mercury would be gay. Brian counters that Mercury was incredibly gay, but Peter remains of the view that he wasn't because he had a mustache, "which is practically like a wedding ring". Peter is evidently entirely unaware of the gay connotations of a large mustache (as evidenced by the later reaction of Bruce).
  • There's a parody of the teen TV show One Tree Hill, poking fun at the High School angst which forms the basis of many similar series. Apparently no other troubles during life are as important as those met in High School!
  • When Stewie successfully attempts to get along with the cool kids at Meg's school he remarks that he has become a bigger hit with the kids than Will Smith's "nice clean rap". The scene then cuts to Smith implausibly recording a rather educative and well-behaved song.
  • McBurgertown is a parody of worldwide popular fast-food company McDonald's and similar fast-food multinational chains.
  • When Peter is not happy with the fact he is suffering a stroke, he is approached by Wimpy, also suffering a stroke. Wimpy, famous for saying, "I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today," is a character from the Popeye comic strip and cartoons.
  • In the car, Peter sings along to R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World As We Know It", his recent stroke causing the already rapid-fire lyrics to become even more muddled.
  • The cow’s line "Including... my beloved wife" is a direct quote from the character played by Montalbán in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
  • After Stewie accepts Connie's date, Connie says "OMG!" which is a reference to teens using a lot of slang, mainly in initials. It is also a reference to SMS language (short for "Oh My God").
  • When Peter gets a lifetime supply of burgers he says that it's a way better offer than the one he got from Helen Hunt. The scene then cuts to show Peter and Hunt at a bar where Hunt asks if Peter wants to have sex and he refuses.
  • When Peter is helping the fireman he says "With great mustache comes great responsibility" which is a reference to Spider-Man.
  • Before Peter goes into McBurger Town to rescue the owner, he is shown with a fireman's hat which has the number 57 on it in an oddly familiar shape. This is a reference to Heinz.
  • The flashback Peter has about the Monopoly board game character, Mr. Monopoly. is a parody of a scene in the movie The Shawshank Redemption in which the main character Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is in prison and three homosexual prisoners known as "the sisters" want to rape him. The narrator of the flashback is similar to the voice of the Morgan Freeman character, who narrated in Shawshank Redemption.
  • Peter claims he was once actor/comedian Robin Williams' jumping-off point. The ensuing flashback shows Peter offering topics of discussion, from which Williams issues a characteristic stream-of-consciousness comedic commentary with various affected voices and personalities, for which Williams is famous (and infamous) for.
  • While Stewie is walking out of the High School, the famous 1976 Bob Dylan song "Hurricane" is playing.
  • The entire scene in which Peter, Brian and the cow are being chased by the two security guards through the McBurgertown Headquarters is a reference to the sixties TV series "The Monkees", featuring the first "manufactured" pop group. The sequences involving crazy chase scenes interspersed with performances of a song in split screen are a classic reference, and the music played is indeed "Pleasant Valley Sunday" by the Monkees.
  • The episode continues the ambiguity of Stewie's sexuality. After making the bet with Brian, Stewie suggests they "kiss on it", before retracting in embarrassment at Brian's reaction. Also, following Brian's euphemistic description of anal sex, likened to a car parking space into which you doubt you can't fit your car but find that HEY you can, Stewie observes that in such circumstances he would rather be the parking space than the car, causing Brian to respond that he always guessed that!
  • The cow says, when questioned by Brian and Peter about where they were, he responds, ". . . but, in here, we call it 'Dacow'." Brian then comments that that was a holocost joke. It was indeed a reference to Dachau, an infamous Nazi concentration camp.
