On Father's Day, Lois sends a reluctant Peter out on a scavenger hunt that the other wives helped her arrange, with Cleveland, Joe, and Quagmire tagging along. The guys track down clues at Goodwill and even Ernie's mansion, before eventually winding up at Wild West's ranch. Shortly after receiving his reward in the form of a sponsored sheep, Peter notices Wild West getting ready for a showdown. While questioning what he's doing, the guys inadvertently distract him, leaving him open to a shot from his absentee father, Old West. He explains that he did not intend to kill him and only wanted to make amends, although Wild refuses. After Old brings the guys home and camps out in the Griffins' backyard, he details his backstory, which inspires Peter to help him reconcile with his son.

Peter attempts to turn Old into a good dad, changing his getup and having him practice by offering dating advice to his own son. However, Wild still won't budge and calls in the cops, including Joe, to arrest his father for his past crimes. Feeling betrayed, Old accepts his sentence, but Peter feels bad and forms a horseback posse with Quagmire, Cleveland, and Allen in order to bust him out of prison. Thanks to a Trojan Bosch, they are able to distract Joe and escape. At Wild's ranch, Wild orders the gang to leave, but Peter insists that he hear his father out. Old reveals that the reason why he abandoned his son was to ensure he wouldn't grow up like him, and his method seems to have worked. Wild shows his appreciation by shooting him in the leg, before he vows to disappear for good.
