Raisin Bran is manufactured by several companies under a variety of brand names including Kellogg's Raisin Bran, General Mills' Total Raisin Bran and Raisin Nut Bran; and Kraft Foods' Post Raisin Bran.
Skinner's Raisin Bran was the first brand on the market, introduced in the United States in 1926 by U.S. Mills, best known for the similar Uncle Sam Cereal. The name "Raisin Bran" was at one time trademarked, but widespread use of the term to refer to any bran-and-raisin cereal caused it to become genericized, so that it can no longer be subject to trademark protections.
Kellogg's Raisin Bran is known for its advertising slogan, "Two scoops of raisins in Kellogg's Raisin Bran" and its mascot, an animated sun named "Sunny" introduced in 1966. Sunny appears in "I Never Met the Dead Man".
In "You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Guy Who Receives", Peter has a problem with Moby Dick, who wants Raisin Bran. However, Peter only has Total available. Peter offers to put raisins in the Total but Moby deems this as unacceptable.
When Peter becomes hooked on television in a 1956 "pilot" in ""Family Guy" Through the Years", an ad for Post Raisin Bran is featured.
Post Raisin Bran is the butt of several jokes in "Bri, Robot", noting that it is similar but worse than Kellogg's Raisin Bran. It is also the 'sponsor' of the scene in which Brian makes out with his robot double.
