The song was written by Madonna, William Orbit, Clive Muldoon, Dave Curtiss and Christine Leach, and was produced by Madonna and Orbit. "Ray of Light" was nominated for three Grammy Awards, for Record of the Year, Best Dance Recording, and Best Short Form Music Video, winning the last two. It lost the Record of the Year award to Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On".
In "New Kidney in Town", Peter Griffin sings it after being introduced to Red Bull energy drinks.
