- The episode's introductory credits are played over scenes relevant to the Second World War including Cabaret, where Stewie and Brian are in bowler hats and fishnet stockings. The Sound of Music, Patton, with Stewie in the eponymous General's costume, and in front of a giant US flag, and Brian dressed as a sailor and Stewie in a dress, kissing and embracing in Times Square, referencing a famous WWII photograph taken in New York after Japan's surrender.
- Stewie breaks apart a vendor's cart to make a skateboard as in Back to the Future. in addition, Stewie runs up and over a pursuing car then lands on his skateboard just before the car crashes into a truck of manure. When Stewie and Brian arrive in the past they skid to a stop leaving twin trails of fire, which is meant to mimic the DeLorean; however, the pair of fire trails only appears when the DeLorean disappears into a new time period.
- When the time machine first forms Brian and Stewie in the past, it starts as a sphere in the same manner as used in the Terminator films.
- When the time pad breaks down, Mort refers to his assy nipples. This is a reference to The Jerky Boys.
- When the time machine return pad returns them to the present, it disappears from Berlin in the same manner as the telephone booth time machine in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.
- Stewie quotes the line "We're not sinking, we're crashing!" just before Stewie, Brian and Mort jump out of a crashing plane in an inflatable raft, which hits rocks while sliding down a mountainside, lands in a river, then drops over a waterfall before landing in calm water much like the famous sequence from the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
- A scientist in the secret Nazi atomic research lab tells Stewie that they're developing an "impressive collection of 100 Luftballons", a reference to "99 Luftballons" by German singer Nena. As soon as he finishes speaking, one of the balloons pops. Translated, the song in English is "99 Red Balloons".
- When Brian and Stewie are wondering if Mort accidentally used the time machine, they ask Rick Moranis and the backup singers from Little Shop of Horrors. The song they sing to explain recent events is set to the tune of Da-Doo from the same show.
- When Stewie, Brian, and Mort find the uranium lab, they lure three Nazis into an alley and knock them out/shoot them similar to the method used aboard the Death Star in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
- When Brian, Stewie, and Mort are first shown in the Avro Lancaster, a British quad engined bomber, Stewie says to Brian, "Talk to me Goose," referencing the character LTJG Nick "Goose" Bradshaw from the 1986 film Top Gun.
- When Stewie walks into the lab and says "Hey Guys," the response the scientists give is a reference to Cheers' "Norm" greeting.
- When Stewie and Hitler accidentally meet they mirror each others' behavior, similar to the famous mirror scene in Duck Soup, an 1933 comedy film by The Marx Brothers. One can see the Evil Monkey's signature pose.
- The Coca-Cola advertisement featuring Mean Joe Greene is parodied again. This time, he tosses uranium to Stewie. Ironically, the advertisement first aired 40 years after the German invasion of Poland, which was the date that Brian and Stewie first landed via their time machine.
- When the German sub crashes into the ocean floor, it is quickly followed by a large number of crashing police cars. This is an homage to the 1980 musical comedy The Blues Brothers.
- The RAF squadron is assisted by a group of Hawkmen from the 1980 film and preceding radio serial Flash Gordon.
- When Brian, Mort and Stewie arrive in Berlin, the city is called "The Happiest Place on Earth", which is the nickname for Disneyland since 1955.
- When Stewie and Brian are about to enter the time machine, Stewie says that even stepping on a single bug can alter the past. This is a nod to A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury.
