- Peter and Quagmire play Tecmo Bowl, an arcade and NES American football game from the 1980s, and the absurdly overpowered nature of Bo Jackson is the focal point of the gag. Later, they play Double Dribble and Peter exploits a glitch that allows the player to shoot a 3-pointer every time. Both the Bo Jackson crazy run and the Double Dribble clips were pulled from YouTube videos.[1][2] The Double Dribble clip was temporarily blocked from YouTube immediately after airing based on a copyright claim by FOX despite preceding the episode by over seven years. The video was later unblocked.
- During the cutaway with the buttoned-up librarian revealing herself to be actually sexy, the song "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner plays.
- The song "True" by Spandau Ballet plays at the James Woods Regional High School Homecoming dance as Stewie and Brian arrive.
- Peter's Twitter handle "PumpkinEater69" is an actual account, although it has been inactive since 2012 at the time of this episode's premier broadcast.[3] Peter's Instagram account is "peterpumpkineater69" and is currently maintained.[4]
- Peter mentions Austin Powers. Seth Green, who voices Chris, played Scott Evil in the Austin Powers films.
- Peter and Joe dress as the title character of The Legend of Bagger Vance, while Quagmire is Kazaam from the film of the same name.
- Before a commercial break, Brian has a book which Stewie claims to be The Hunger Games sitting on the arm of the couch. After the break and an unspecified amount of time passed, the book is missing.
