You seem to be missing the point. What I'm explaining is that Lois' sentence would have a $ symbol included if she said "dollars". She said "49.95" without saying the term "dollars", thus the $ symbol should not be included in layman's terms.
This is an American show and that is common English styling here when you know the subject is money. We don't use the metric system for our finances. --Buckimion 21:02, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
