- The episode was originally meant to air on January 16, 2011, but was replaced with the moved-up "And I'm Joyce Kinney", pushing it back to January 23, 2011, but was replaced by a repeat of "Brian Writes a Bestseller", pushing it back again to March 6.
- Chris does not appear or have speaking lines in the original broadcast of this episode. He is added to a table scene in subsequent showings.
- Patrick Warburton, who provides the voice of Joe Swanson, said in an interview that "The Hand That Rocks the Wheelchair" was his all-time favorite Family Guy episode. Warburton also stated in the same interview that he and Mila Kunis, who plays Meg, got to record some of their lines in the same session. Usually, they record their lines separately, as is most animation companies.[1]
- This is the second episode in which Stewie clones himself. The first time was in "Quagmire's Baby".
- Stewie's clone's reversal of colors is similar to Clark Kent and Bizarro in Smallville.
- When dropping Meg off at the school, Joe asks about Lady Gaga, wondering if it is a douche.
- Peter and Joe remember Meg's previous obsession with Brian in "Barely Legal". This is the only mentioned example of Meg's previous curious cases of love, however Joe does acknowledge this as a behavior that has been apparent more than once prior to this episode.
- Writer Tom Devanney revealed in the DVD commentary for "Quagmire and Meg" that the original title for this episode was "Joe and Meg".
