Hill Street Blues is an American police drama that aired on NBC from 1981 to 1987 for 146 episodes.
When Lois manages to finally bond with her father in "Regarding Carter", they sing a few duets, including creating words for the instrumental theme to Hill Street Blues. When the rest of the family, seeking a way to make Carter mean again in order to protect their inheritance see that Lois is happy, they feel bad about their plot and join in a few choruses.
