"To Jesus Christ Our Sovereign King" is a Catholic hymn, written in 1941 by Father Martin B. Hellriegel, a German-American pastor in Saint Louis, as a direct response to the pretensions of the Third Reich.
The altar/choir boys of Holy Christ Church, along with Peter, who injured his testicles in an exercise bike accident, resulting in a high-pitched voice in "Mister Act", start out singing "To Jesus Christ Our Sovereign King". When Peter realizes they're boring the congregation, he decides to mix things up by switching over to revised lyrics to the Bee Gees song "Tragedy".
Lyrics[]
- Entire Choir: To Jesus Christ, our sovereign king
- Who is the world's salvation
- [Peter notes the congregation is nodding off to sleep]
- Peter: [to the other choir boys] They're falling asleep out there.
- We got to kick this up a notch. Follow my lead.
- Choir boy: We don't know who you are.
- [Peter steps forward and starts singing]
- Peter: Tragedy
- When church is lame and you miss the game, it's a tragedy
- When your bum goes numb from kneeling some
- It's a tragedy
