- Peter getting his face ripped off after looking into the chimpanzee enclosure is a reference to an incident in which Charla Nash was attacked by a chimpanzee that tore her face and hands off.[1]
- Brian's joke with the lions about losing a football game is a reference to the Detroit Lions of the NFL, which maintain an annual tradition of playing on Thanksgiving. They have an overall losing record in their games, although the worst of the losses have occurred during a nine year losing streak through 2012 before breaking the streak in 2013.[2]
- While being coached by Stewie on greeting the guests, Chris mentions receiving conflicting instructions from "slender man," a reference to the Slender Man meme.
